Principal’s Message

Dear Students and Families,

On behalf of our entire staff, welcome to Strough Middle School, “Where Believers Become Achievers!”

In Rome City School District, we believe that all students can learn and be successful. Our mission is to ensure that students become life-long learners and productive citizens of high moral character. Our goals will be reached through engaging in meaningful and rigorous work in the classrooms, through a caring, comprehensive and thoughtful program of instruction, and through a number of extra-curricular clubs and activities, athletic teams and special events.

Our faculty and staff of highly qualified professionals are committed to providing an array of learning opportunities and strategies to our students. We utilize a team teaching approach and teachers are prepared to assist you with the essential materials, advice and knowledge that are important for success. The middle school philosophy of grade level teams centers on building successful learning communities through teacher partnerships. The middle school model attends to the whole student – social, emotional, physiological and cognitive. It also provides consistency for the students and a more supportive environment for teachers. Please note that our teachers “loop” with our students, meaning that students will remain with the same teachers for two years. Looping helps teachers to foster relationships with students and families, develop a richer curriculum, meet the individual needs of students and use instructional time more efficiently over time.

Some Thoughts for Our 7th Graders:

If you are an incoming 7th grader, we recognize this can be an exciting, yet somewhat stressful time. Please know our middle school will offer you new and exciting challenges and opportunities. Your teachers and school staff will offer you support and guidance to help you flourish as learners and as young adults.

Some Thoughts for Our 8th Graders:

As 8th grade students, you are on the verge of being high school students! It is with great pride that we have watched you learn and grow. As you work this year, we challenge you to develop increasing independence and ownership over your learning. Teachers and staff will always guide you, but you are in control of your destiny…

Some Thoughts for Our Parents:

Please know that we highly value home-school communication at Strough as it plays an integral role in each student’s success. The surest way to maximize student potential is when there is open communication between parents and teachers.   We would encourage you to contact Strough staff with any questions regarding your child and will gladly accept your thoughts and feedback.

We appreciate the opportunity to educate your children and look forward to sharing all the experiences ahead during the 2018-2019 school year.

Sincerely,

Mr. O’Rourke, Principal

Mrs. Pouliot, Assistant Principal

Mr. Snitchler, Assistant Principal
